Things to come

March 21st, 2010

Now we’re past the first day of spring, and my thoughts go here P6170008…to hammocksville…my favourite summer place.

Where’s your favourite summer place?

Do you know that Canadians have an international reputation for NOT leaving comments on blogs?

Just thought I’d throw that at you… :)

  1. Tanya says:

    1. Commenting.

    2. Wondering how you possibly spend any time in a hammock, with all the other things going on in your life.

    3. Betting that this photo was posed.

    4. Wondering if it would defeat the purpose to combine hammock and laptop?

  2. admin says:

    1. Single-handedly breaking down the Canadian reputation! Yes!

    2. When we built our “new” deck four years ago, we designed it with the supporting posts standing tall. (It didn’t need sides; it’s only fifteen inches or so off the ground.) We drilled holes right through the posts, and put big rings in them…with the purpose of taking only seconds to hang a hammock! So even though I am really busy, I do make time, every summer day that it’s not raining, to spend some in the hammock. It is my absolutely favourite place. I also get up at about 5 a.m. to write, quite regularly. So by the time afternoon hits, I’m wiped, and I like a lie-down.

    3. Yes, it’s posed (oh how I HATE having my picture taken! I do it because I’ve had to become convinced that I should…) but I went through my shelves looking for a book I’ve read and loved more than once, and to me (who hates pictures…) it doesn’t feel posed because it is actually how I spend time.

    4. A laptop would definitely defeat the purpose. Okay, next time I’ll pose with a Books Only sign!

  3. Amy Whitmore says:

Yes, you definitely need pictures – glad you’re accommodating. Otherwise, how would we know who you really are?

My favorite summer place is in a not cold lake with a smooth rock bottom, the sun glinting through the water turning the rocky bottom muted gold, and then, as I swim farther out, turning my splash into showers of diamond.

  4. I love the picture of you in a hammock. I wish I had one, but don’t have much room in my small yard. I love to read, though. I like to leave comments on blogs. I will now go and read the rest of yours.

  5. Deb says:

Oh. My. GOSH….when I stop laughing re the comment on not commenting, I’ll, er…comment on your most recent post. HAH.

Great pic of you on the hammock!

  6. (I took the bait and responded!)my favourite summer place is anywhere outside that has a garden/nature or a beach!!! Actually more garden and more beach, WAY less people and lots of hot weather..it has to be warm and sunny which in BC on the coast is iffy at best…
I have a hammock too, and 2 recliners: one’s turquoise the other one is deep yellow and my hammock is deep yellow; as you can tell I love colours and I saw my first hummingbird of the year in my garden yesterday.(twice!)
I also look forward to reading your books, too! (and watching clouds)~Julie Northey

  7. admin says:

I always feel rich, for having seen a hummingbird. Like spotting a faerie or leprechaun.
    Thanks, Julie!

  8. Amy says:

When I lived in St. Andrews, NB, I was astonished to hear a hard buzz, and discover hummingbirds raiding the flowers on the landing on the outside stairs to my upstairs apartment! Haven’t seen any in this ARID Calgary….

  9. Amy says:

No proper summer lakes here, either. Sigh.

  10. I’m commenting just to break stereotypes and also to tell you that hammock is very tempting. Rhea
